Grange School, at the weekend, emerged champions in the primary category of the 3rd Zenith Bank/Ikoyi Club School Swimming Gala. At a colorful event which had 11 schools in attendance, Grange bagged nine gold, five silver and six bronze medals to win the tournament which had over 200 participants in 33 events. 2017 winners, St. Saviour School, Ikoyi settled for second place while Children International School (CIS) came third. Amina Adegunwa of Grange School and Chigwam Nkechita of St. Saviour School were declared joint MVP for the girls while Abduljabar Adama of Grange was voted MVP for the boys after scooping four gold medals.

The Group Managing Director of Zenith Bank, Peter Amangbo, said the financial institution was committed to sports development in Nigeria stressing sports has over the years serve as unifying factors of Nigerians. “We intend to do more as we have been championing sports development by discovering young talents for the country through some of the sports we have been involved. We are proud sponsors of Nigerian football and we also bankroll basketball.

Our commitment to sports is unwavering and we are determined to do more,” Amangbo stressed. President of Nigeria Aquatic Federation, Babatunde Fatayi-Williams, who was the special guest, noted that the quality of the swimming was very high.

“This is a very good foundation for the sport in Nigeria. I’m so happy with the commitment of Ikoyi Club and Zenith Bank regarding the sponsorship and hosting of this event. It’s the third year and still going strong; definitely the result in the next few years will bring glory to Nigeria in the sport at continental and international level.”

Other schools that took part were Corona School, Greenspring School, Priory Preparatory School, St. Saviours School, Ebute Metta, Temple School, Ikoyi, Lagos Preparatory School and Meadow Hall School. The next phase of the tournament comes up on Saturday with 12 schools on the list to battle it out in the secondary category.
