Nigeria’s Super Eagles defeated Togo’s Hawks 2-0 in the reverse fixture of the 2020 African Nations Championship (CHAN) on Saturday, October 19, at Agege Stadium, but failed to progress to the tournament finals, losing 3-4 on aggregate.
Sikiru Alimi netted twice in each half of the game, opening scores in the 9th before adding the second two minutes after the hour mark, but his goals could not send Nigeria through the biennial championship.
Interestingly, during the first leg clash two weeks ago, the Imama Amapakabo’s tutored-side were hammered 4-1 at the Stade de Kégué in Lomé.
The performance means the Eagles will be missing at CHAN for the first time since 2014 and the third time of asking in the record books of the tournament
Nigeria previously missed the first and second editions of CHAN in 2009 and 2011 respectively.
