Formula One with a speed of over 300km/h has shown to be one of the safest sports with it’s 21st century designs and safety modifications.
Analyzing first of all the photos of the wreckage of the car, we can see how the Haas VF20 of the French driver is essentially divided into two sections, at the height of the attachment of the engine to the chassis, just behind the survival cell. 
However, the part that protects the driver, that is the monocoque and the survival cell, has perfectly fulfilled its duty, together with the Halo system, and the roll bar, which have opened the guard rail, fitting the car inside it.

The violent impact, with an angle between 30 and 45 degrees, at a speed of about 221 km/h, triggered the leakage of petrol from the left cap of the tank, due to the strong deceleration (source from local insiders) which would have ignited the fireball around Grosjean’s Haas.  Therefore, no tank fortified by metal sheets, as tragically thought from the first analyzes.

The blast and explosion would otherwise have been of a much more serious entity, probably also involving the marshals on the track.  Fortuna also wanted a wheel, detached from the car, to have traveled a trajectory far from hitting people on the track.  In the photos and drawings you can see which parts of the car have been determined to safeguard the life of the racer and the insiders.

In any case, the necessary investigations will be carried out by the federation, because overall luck also played an important role.
