George Russell impressed everyone winning driver of the day, as he brings long lost excitement to F1 during his debut weekend for the Mercedes team. He missed pole position by just 0.026 seconds, starting the race from the first row of the grid. He lead the race untill the pit stop where Mercedes messed-up. Still, Russell kept fighting his way through the field until a slow puncture forced him once again to pit. Again he fought his way from 14th to 9th with a fastest lap to earn him 3 points.

Formula 1 fans believe he has all it takes to bring the long list excitement in the game, McLaren driver Carlos Sainz also believes this makes it clear what Formula 1 is missing. “It shows that the differences between the cars are too big, while almost the entire field could be within three tenths of a second.”

“It’s a shame that a boy who fights for P15 every weekend suddenly misses the pole by a hair in a winning car. For me, this shows what Formula 1 misses, it could be a much nicer show if the cars were more equal and the driver could make the difference,” Sainz said.
